Baignoire

The barrel-shaped form of the Tonneau watch from 1912 became the template for the Baignoire collection, which is currently experiencing a big resurgence. Louis Cartier was obsessed with innovation, he always wanted to create original things. He took the traditional shape of a round watch and extended it. Two straight parallel lines closed by two curves created a shape resembling a bath or “baignoire” in French. Today, Baignoire watches are even more modern than ever before.

The shape changes with different case sizes. Smaller versions are purely oval, the exquisite diamond decoration makes the watch more like jewellery, so it is just as suitable for a long evening gown. The larger models, nicknamed Allongée, have the hallmark of being unfettered and give an almost punk look. They go great with outfits with press studs and metal adornments.

Something more…

Baignoire watches became cultish in the late Fifties. This was due to them being adored by actresses such as Catherine Deneuve, Romy Schneider and Jeanne Moreau.

Collection highlight

The Baignoire small in rose gold (ref .: W8000007), with a flat sapphire in the crown is an enduring icon. The crown’s look is based on a historical prototype, as it was used in the Tank or Santos models. The watch is powered by a quartz movement and comes with a fetching brown alligator leather strap. Its small size, 31.6 × 24.24 mm, is especially suitable for thin wrists. The watch will appeal to women who prefer a traditional and highly elegant style.
