Ocean Star
Waves breaking against the cliffs and splashing back into the untamed ocean. Perched majestically above this endless interplay of the elements there stands a lighthouse. This warning light over Gibraltar caught the attention of Mido’s designers who decided to revamp the Ocean Star collection into a line purely focused on sport watches with a strong diver’s angle, all equipped with a uni-directional rotating bezel, luminescence and a screwed-down crown.
In 2019 the Ocean Star range celebrated its 75th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Mido launched the Ocean Star Tribute – designed in a 1960s retro spirit – and the Ocean Star Diver 600 featuring an enviable water-resistance of up to 60 bars.

In the 1940s the brand unveiled a significant, novel technological feature, a cork crown seal ensuring proper water-resistance – christened Aquadura at a later stage – which, as it happens, was first used in the Ocean Star watches.The Mido brand is nowadays a proud partner in the Red Bull Cliff Diving competition. There is no need to say, how dangerous and, at the same time, how visually appealing this extreme sport is.
Collection highlight
Without a single doubt, the highlight of this collection is the fully-fledged Ocean Star Diver 600 diver’s watch with reference number M026.608.11.041.00 featuring a blue dial, a ceramic bezel and helium valve. The driving force behind this automatic chronometer with a 43.5 mm case is a balance wheel with a silicon hairspring. The watch is capable of enduring the considerable pressure of a 600 m water column and, if fully wound, it keeps running for up to 80 hours when it is not on your wrist.For those who like it darker, there is the all-black variant featuring a black dial, a black case (DLC-coated steel) and, of course, a black rubber strap.
