Autavia

This is a story about the rebirth of a legend. At the inception of the Autavia collection stood the daring fusion of aviation and motor watch characteristics, a revolutionary notion to surpass limits and to make every single feature serve the whole. In 2017, after a 55-year production hiatus the collection returned in a form that some would say is its best ever. Before long, Autavia once again amazed the world of horology with the release of a model which for the first time lacked the chronograph complication, proving once and for all that the collection has entered a new chapter in its history.

In 1962 the Autavia chronograph watch brought a hitherto unprecedented clean design and an uncompromising emphasis on solid functionality. Nowadays, these vintage timepieces have become much-craved collector’s items for true connoisseurs.

Something more…

The origins of the Autavia model reach as far back as the 1930s. At that time, it was a (dash)board clock that accurately showed the time to pilots and motorists alike. After all, the name is a composite of the words AUTomotive and AVIAtion. In 1962 Jack Heuer cleverly borrowed it for his first chronograph watch.

Collection highlight

Although the first Autovia model without a chronograph caused commotion in the world of horology, it seems that, as ever, TAG Heuer struck a common chord with its customers. The stylistically pure TAG Heuer Autavia Calibre 5 Chronometer (Ref: WBE5116.FC8266) pilot’s watch, with a splendid vintage look underscored by its gradient dial and luminescent Super-LumiNova-coated hands and indexes, excellently meets the requirements of pilots and motorists and is also perfectly suited for casual wear. You can order the watch with either a steel bracelet or an elegant calfskin strap. The range also includes models featuring a classy black dial.
