Pasha de Cartier
At last, after a hiatus of more than a decade, we are to witness the revival of the illustrious Pasha model which caused a sensation upon its launch in 1985, instantly propelling it to deserved iconic status.
The beautiful design, skilfully wedding a thick, round bezel with a square, minute railway track in the dial’s centre, features a date aperture at four o’ clock. Yet more intriguing is the spinel or sapphire cabochon-capped protector over the crown attached to a small chain – appropriately named a chain crown – which can be unscrewed. Hidden underneath it is yet another small gemstone, which is part of the actual crown used for winding. Pretty spectacular, isn’t it?
Set to be unveiled in the autumn of 2020, the watch comes in two case sizes – 35 and 41 mm. Naturally, some of the women’s versions in rose gold come with diamond bezels whilst the white-gold women’s models even have full pavé – with both the dial and bracelet paved with brilliant-cut diamonds.
Purist steel variants, on the other hand, make for a decidedly more austere look. Most reminiscent of the original 1980s design is the yellow-gold men’s watch which now additionally features a date window. Cartier’s watchmakers have also designed a breath-taking 41-mm skeletonised steel version as well as a gold model featuring a tourbillon. All the collection’s watches are equipped with a reliable mechanical movement.
