Tortue
The founding stone that was placed at the very start of Cartier’s horological foray. The “Tortoise” shell, which was the inspiration for the collection, has both oval and straight lines. The first Tortue wristwatch popped out in 1912 and has appeared in various guises ever since. But what is it that simply can’t be omitted? Roman numerals, blue hands, the secret inscription in the numeral - the foot of the “V” - and the inner frame. This timeless classic, which has not lost one iota of its appeal and modernity, even after a hundred years, can now only be found in the women’s collections. It has no place in a man’s world, a world for which it was originally created. But who knows, maybe with time it’ll make its presence known here once again.
